MetroTV is a 24 hour news channel that established on November 25, 2000, by PT Media Televisi Indonesia who owned by Surya Paloh. The television station offers no sinetron (Indonesian soap opera) and had just started to broadcast its entertainment programmes. The station mainly offers news with multilanguage, include Mandarin, Indonesia, and English news.

In the early days, Metro TV only broadcasted for about 12 hours. But in April 1, 2001, it started to broadcast for 24 hours a day. Until now, the station is run by more than 900 workers, in the news room and regional production. The broadcast can be viewed in more than 280 towns and cities in Indonesia with the 53 transmission sites all over the country. Metro TV was the first television company that officially inaugurated by Indonesian President.
